Woman Killed After Stolen Car Crashes onto Her Roof

Fleeing from the police is against the law in many states and Florida is no exception. Prior to 2003, however, the charge was only a misdemeanor. Since 2003, a person who is willfully refusing to stop for a law enforcement officer is a third-degree felony offense. This is the case regardless of whether the police officer’s lights and sirens are activated. If convicted of the charge, there are numerous penalties a person may face. These include up to five years in a Florida state prison, mandatory suspension of driver’s license for between 1 and 5 years, and if the lights and sirens are activated, although charged with a third-degree felony, it will be treated as a first-degree felony under sentencing guidelines.

Click Orlando reports that one woman was killed when a stolen vehicle crashed and landed on top of their car. The crash happened on Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m. on West Central Boulevard and Westmoreland Drive in Orlando.

33-year-old Seneca Howard ran a red light while driving a stolen Nissan. He plowed into a white Hyundai, went airborne, flipping and then landing on a Toyota that had been stopped. Before this crash, Howard had crashed into a patrol vehicle at Westminster Drive and Coyler Street.

89-year-old Sammie Lee Johnson died as a result of her injuries. She was in the front passenger seat. The driver of the Toyota, Stephanie House, 63, suffered from serious injuries. A male in the back seat was not injured.

The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.

Howard was in the stolen vehicle along with 27-year-old Deronte Slaughter and 28-year-old Valkaria Crawford. Crawford was ejected from the vehicle and also suffered from serious injuries.

Slaughter and Howard were both taken into custody. In addition to a bag of MDMA that Howard took from Slaughter, a stolen black revolver was recovered from the stolen vehicle.
