The Orlando Sentinel reports that a car crash in the late afternoon of Thursday, June 24, 2021, has left one adult and three children injured. One of the children and the adult is currently on life support.
According to a statement issued by Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes, the accident happened at approximately 4:00 p.m. in the 13800 block of Landstar Boulevard near Amber Lake Boulevard.
Investigators say that the driver of a Honda carrying the mother and her three children attempted a left turn in front of traffic and collided with another Honda.
The FHP and Orange County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the crash scene, where there were two adults and three children. At the time of the crash, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
After being taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, the mother and one of the children were placed on advanced life support. The two other children were taken in as trauma alerts.
Officials say that at least some of the children may not have been wearing proper child restraints at the time of the accident.
Florida law makes it a requirement that all children under the age of five be restrained in an approved child safety seat or booster seat that is appropriate for their age when riding in a motor vehicle. During routine traffic stops, the FHP says it is finding that some motorists are failing to follow the law when it comes to child safety.
